Who is responsible for your information

Assurenet (“we”) operates this site and is responsible for protecting the personal information collected on it, under Québec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.

A person in charge of the protection of personal information oversees how this policy is applied. They handle your requests and complaints. To reach them, use the contact form: your message is passed on to them.

What we collect, and why

We collect only what it takes to put you in touch with a specialist. Everything comes from what you type on the site yourself.

• The questionnaire: first name, last name, email, phone, type of insurance and postal code. They serve to match you with a specialist in your type of insurance and your area (the match is based on the type of insurance and the postal code only), to pass your contact details on to them and to send you the confirmation email that names their firm.
• The two optional questions (current insurer, renewal month): your answers go as-is to the specialist, for the call. Assurenet does not use them.
• Proof of your consent: date and time of submission, site language, originating page, browser type and the exact wording of the boxes you ticked.
• The newsletter: your email, to send you our articles and reminders, only if you subscribed or ticked the optional box in the questionnaire.
• The contact form: name, email, phone, company (optional) and message, so we can reply.

We collect nothing about your vehicle, your claims, your health, your income or your current premium. Those questions come from the specialist, during the call, under their own responsibility.

Your consent

We use your information with your consent, given separately for each purpose through a box you tick yourself. No box is ever pre-ticked.

• Required box in the questionnaire: you agree that Assurenet shares your contact details with one partner insurance firm, and that its certified representative may contact you by phone, email or text about your request. Without that box, we can’t match you.
• Optional newsletter box: you agree to receive our articles and reminders by email. Unsubscribe in one click, in every email.

You can withdraw your consent at any time (see “Your rights”). Withdrawing doesn’t undo what was already done, but it stops any further use on our side.

Who we share it with

Assurenet does not sell or rent your information. It is shared only with the recipients below, for the purposes described above.

• One partner insurance firm and its certified representative: the specialist who calls you. Their name and their firm’s name are in your confirmation email. From the moment it receives your request, the firm is responsible for its own handling of your information, under its own privacy policy, its own retention periods and the rules of its profession. It pays Assurenet a fixed amount for the introduction, whether or not you buy.
• Supabase, which hosts our database.
• The provider that sends the confirmation email and the newsletter.
• The company that hosts the website, for the technical data needed to display the pages.
• A public authority, only when the law requires it.

These providers work for Assurenet, under contract, and may not use your information for their own purposes. Some may store it outside Québec; before we hand anything over, we carry out the assessment required by law and make sure it gets adequate protection.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as the reason it was collected requires. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous.

• Questionnaire and proof of consent: kept for as long as we need them to answer a complaint or show your consent, then deleted or made anonymous.
• Newsletter: kept as long as you’re subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep only your address on our suppression list, so we never write to you again.
• Contact form messages: kept for as long as it takes to handle your request and keep a record of it, then deleted.

Your rights

To exercise your rights, write to us through the contact form: your message is passed on to the person in charge of the protection of personal information. We reply within 30 days, free of charge, once your identity is confirmed.

• Access: know what information we hold about you and get a copy.
• Correction: have inaccurate or incomplete information fixed.
• Withdrawal of consent: ask us to stop using or sharing your information. If the partner firm already has it, we pass your request on to them too.
• Deletion: ask us to erase your information when it is no longer needed.
• Portability: receive the information you gave us in a common electronic format.
• Complaint: if you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can turn to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec at cai.gouv.qc.ca.

Cookies

The site sets no analytics, advertising or social media cookies, and no cookie that tracks you. Only cookies strictly necessary for the site to work (for example, protection against abuse) may be set; they don’t require your consent. If that changes, we’ll ask for your permission first, with the choice off by default, and update this page.

Security

Your information travels encrypted (HTTPS) and is stored in a database with restricted access: the site can write your request into it but not read it back, and only the people who need it to match you can access it. If an incident ever posed a risk of serious harm to you, we would notify you and the Commission d’accès à l’information, as the law requires.

Minors

Assurenet is for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information about minors. If you think a minor has sent us a request, write to us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

The date at the top of the page shows the version in force. If a change affects how we use your information, we announce it on the site and, if you’re subscribed to the newsletter, by email. Information collected earlier stays under the rules announced when it was collected.
